Of Rains and Terror

Chennai has been lashed with heavy rains in the last couple of weeks, thanks to the effect of Cyclone Nisha. The rains have left the towns flooded with water. A week has past since the spell of Nisha ceased, but there is no respite for the streets of Chennai - a good portion of Chennai is still under water. The Chennai Corporation is pretty shameless and shrugs away all the happenings and criticism.

Look at areas like Nanganallur, T.Nagar - they have been torn apart in these rains. Areas like CIT Colony & Gopalapuram seem to have good infrastructure to combat rains - the reason? Top brass politicians live there. In India, the allocation of funds for infrastructure and how swiftly the work gets done on who lives in that area!! You cannot ignore the contrast between localities even within a city!

Why do we people not ask these tough questions to politicians?

The recent ruthless acts of terror on the Indian soil in Mumbai has boiled the blood of all INDIAN's alike. And again we have seen the shameless faces of the politicians taking tour (with guests) of the terror site, calling it a "small incident" and making loose comments on a truly respectable family of Major Unnikrishnan.

Be it rain or terror - the politician's attitude are the same - they just don't care. They are too swamped their own set of priorities (vote bank, making illegal money etc) and they have really become thick skinned to the real needs and security of the people of India.

The future of India and the security of our family and friends is in OUR OWN HANDS NOW. We'll have to get the politicians listen to us and change themselves OR we should change them!! We need a new political system - a political system that is more accountable to the people and a system that does not tolerate lethargy - Deliver or Perish.

W need a system like the US - where we have only a handful of parties (not necessarily two) and have stringent qualification requirements for becoming a PM or a Minister. Why is that a corporate's CEO needs so many qualifications and credentials where as a PM or a Minister of a country does not? This is a paradox that we people of India need to get rid of.
